This site (in construction) is a companion resource to the monograph The Periodical Life of Modernity. Sonzogno’s First Century (1804-1909) by Silvia Valisa (University of Toronto Press, forthcoming in 2026)
Both resources are aimed at recovering the history and output of the Italian, Milan-based publisher Sonzogno, and at highlighting its importance in the modernization of Italian culture. Here you will find:
1. The digitization of the newspaper Il Secolo
2. A reconstructed Digital Catalog of Sonzogno titles published in 1885
3. Four previously unpublished letters to or from Ernesto Teodoro Moneta, the director of Il Secolo (full transcription and description to come)
